Taiwan’s first national-level accelerator dedicated to space startups opened July 31 at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), bringing together research, investment and industry resources in a bid to strengthen the country’s position in the rapidly expanding global space economy.

Established by the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA), the TASA iSPARK Space Innovation Hub is located in the Hsien-Che Building on NYCU’s Boai Campus. The hub will combine NYCU’s research talent, TASA’s technological expertise and the industrial strength of the Hsinchu Science Park to help Taiwanese space startups turn laboratory innovations into commercially viable products and services.

Connecting Campus Research With Global Markets

NYCU has built extensive research capabilities in semiconductors, information and communications technology, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, photonics, advanced materials and systems integration. Its longstanding partnerships with the Hsinchu Science Park and companies in Taiwan and overseas have also positioned the university at the heart of the country’s technology ecosystem. The arrival of TASA iSPARK on the Boai Campus will further connect academic research, technology validation and industry resources, creating a strategic corridor for space innovation.

The initiative comes as commercial opportunities expand in low-Earth-orbit satellites, satellite communications, Earth observation and space-based data services. Taiwan’s strengths in semiconductors, ICT, precision manufacturing and electronics supply chains give it a strong foundation from which to enter these emerging markets.

With commercialization at the center of its mission, TASA iSPARK will provide technical guidance, testing and validation support, investor matchmaking, international partnerships and professional advisory services. The hub will also promote a co-creation model in which established companies identify real-world challenges and startups develop solutions. The approach is designed to accelerate product validation, shorten the path to market and increase the likelihood that new technologies will be successfully adopted.

A New Strategy for Taiwan’s Space Industry

Cho said that competing in space and exploring the ocean are central elements of the government’s national development vision. Next-generation communications have been included in Taiwan’s “Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects” and designated as one of the country’s 13 key strategic industries. The government has committed more than NT$71 billion (about US$2.4 billion) under the third phase of its long-term national space technology development program, building a comprehensive framework spanning legislation, institutional development, policy and public investment.

 

Cho said TASA iSPARK would play a key role in nurturing startups, connecting them with industry and expanding international cooperation. Accelerating startup growth and technology commercialization, he added, will be essential for Taiwan to establish a stronger presence in next-generation communications and the global space sector. He expressed hope that the hub would become an important gateway linking Taiwan with the international space market.

Wu said Taiwan should capitalize on its advantages in semiconductors and smart manufacturing to seize opportunities in next-generation communications. The value of low-Earth-orbit satellites, he said, lies not simply in the number placed in orbit but in their ability to communicate with ground-based systems and deliver services to people. Satellite communications therefore offer Taiwan a particularly promising entry point into the global space industry.

Wu also said plans are underway to establish a space investment fund that would encourage venture capital firms and private investors to support technology development and long-term industrial growth.

TASA iSPARK has already brought together teams working in satellite communications, optical remote sensing, testing and validation, ground equipment, artificial intelligence, advanced materials and systems integration. The hub is also building a cross-disciplinary network that includes electronics manufacturers, satellite service providers, testing organizations, investors, legal specialists and professional advisers.

Building the Next Generation of Space Startups

Jong-Shinn Wu, who recently retired from NYCU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, said the rapid growth of the global space economy would require participation not only from government but also from industry and private capital. The establishment of TASA iSPARK marks a new stage in the development of Taiwan’s space sector, Wu said, describing the hub as a gateway that will help guide startups and connect them with international markets.

In addition to providing workspace, TASA iSPARK will offer industry courses, co-creation workshops, matchmaking events, international networking opportunities and one-on-one mentoring. These programs will help participating teams advance technology validation, product development, business-model design and market expansion.

The hub is also partnering with Asia Innovation Hub this year to launch an international accelerator program. Through mentoring by global industry experts, overseas market exploration and cross-border partnerships, the program aims to help Taiwanese startups enter international space-industry supply chains.

NYCU will continue drawing on its strengths in interdisciplinary research, talent development and university-industry collaboration to support the initiative. Working alongside TASA and the Hsinchu Science Park ecosystem, the university aims to help more Taiwanese innovations move beyond the laboratory — and into the global marketplace.

國家太空中心(TASA)設立的「TASA iSPARK星創基地」7月31日於國立陽明交通大學博愛校區賢齊館開幕。作為臺灣首座國家級太空新創加速器,基地將結合陽明交大的科研人才、國家太空中心的技術能量與新竹科學園區的產業聚落,串聯研發、投資及國際市場資源,加速臺灣太空新創從技術走向市場。開幕典禮由行政院長卓榮泰、國科會主委吳誠文、國家太空中心主任吳宗信及產業界代表共同敲槌,宣示基地正式啟動。

從校園研發走向國際市場

陽明交大長期深耕半導體、資通訊、人工智慧、電機、光電、先進材料及系統整合,並與竹科及國內外產業緊密合作。星創基地進駐博愛校區,將進一步整合校園研發、技術驗證與產業資源,形成太空創新的關鍵廊道。

隨著全球太空經濟快速成長,低軌衛星、衛星通訊、地球觀測及太空資料應用等領域商機蓬勃,臺灣擁有半導體、資通訊、精密製造與電子供應鏈優勢,星創基地將聚焦技術商品化,協助科研成果轉化為具市場競爭力的產品與服務。

基地以市場需求為核心,整合技術輔導、驗測支援、投資媒合、國際合作及專業顧問服務,並透過「企業出題、新創解題」的共創模式,加速產品驗證與市場導入,提高創新成果落地的機會。

首座國家級加速器 布局太空產業新戰略

行政院長卓榮泰表示,「競逐太空、探索海洋」是政府重要國政願景,次世代通訊已納入「AI新十大建設」及十三項關鍵戰略產業。政府並透過第三期國家太空科技發展長程計畫投入逾新臺幣710億元,從法制、組織、政策及預算全面布局。
 



卓榮泰指出,星創基地肩負培育新創、鏈結產業及拓展國際合作的任務。唯有加速新創成長與技術商業化,才能讓臺灣在次世代通訊及太空產業站穩國際舞台。他期盼基地成為臺灣鏈結全球太空市場的重要樞紐。

國科會主委吳誠文則表示,臺灣應發揮半導體與智慧製造優勢,掌握次世代通訊的發展契機。低軌衛星的價值不只在於衛星數量,更在於與地面通聯、服務人群;衛星通訊正是臺灣切入全球太空產業的重要機會。未來也將成立太空基金,引導創投及民間資金投入技術開發與產業布局。

匯聚跨域團隊 培育下一波太空新創

目前星創基地已匯聚衛星通訊、光學遙測、測試驗證、地面設備、人工智慧、先進材料及系統整合等團隊,並串聯電子製造、衛星服務、檢測驗證、投資、法律及專業顧問夥伴,建立跨域共創網絡。

國家太空中心主任、甫自陽明交大機械工程學系退休的吳宗信表示,全球太空經濟蓬勃發展,臺灣除了政府投入,更需要產業及民間資本共同參與。iSPARK的成立象徵臺灣太空產業邁入新階段,將成為導航新創、連結全球市場的重要入口。

除提供進駐空間,基地也規劃產業課程、共創工作坊、媒合活動、國際資源串接及一對一業師輔導,協助團隊推進技術驗證、產品開發、商業模式建立及市場拓展。今年更攜手Asia Innovation Hub(AIH)啟動國際培育計畫,透過國際業師輔導、海外市場探勘與跨國鏈結,協助臺灣新創進入全球太空產業供應鏈。

未來,陽明交大將持續發揮跨域科研、人才培育與產學合作優勢,攜手國家太空中心及竹科產業聚落,讓更多創新成果走出實驗室、飛向國際市場。
