The works of two technological art teams from our school will make a grand appearance at the 'Diffusion Couple of Art and Technology' exhibition, held at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts from December 23, 2023, to March 3, 2024.

The 'Diffusion Couple of Art and Technology' exhibition held its opening ceremony on January 20, 2024. Our school's 'Theater of Future Puppet' presented the opening performance titled "Gathering_Virtual and Real Puppets and Human-Computer Interactive Theater." This performance combined IoTtalk Internet of Things technology with mechanical arms, allowing dancers to engage in cross-domain dialogue between humans and puppets within an immersive projection-based virtual reality.

For the 'Diffusion Couple of Art and Technology' exhibition at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, the virtual reality puppetry experience evolved from its original head-mounted display to immersive projection. Controlling virtual puppets with bare hands was also improved to utilize smartphones, allowing easier manipulation and accommodating a more extensive audience in the exhibition space.

Technology Unveils a New Era of Puppetry Manipulation Experience

Professor Chun-Cheng Hsu, the project's principal investigator and director of the 'Theater of Future Puppet,' stated that an interdisciplinary team from various schools is executing this project.

Apart from the VR puppetry work, collaborations include "Extension of Hands, Inheritance of Palms - Mechanical Puppetry Project" by Professor Jason Yi-Bing Lin and Associate Professor He-Lin Luo from Tainan National University of the Arts, 'Eye-Controlled Puppetry' developed by Professor Jason Yi-Bing Lin in collaboration with Associate Professor Tsuei-Ju Hsieh from National Tsing Hua University and Assistant Professor Yun-Ju Chen from National Taipei University of Business, and 'Interactive Experience of Technological Puppetry' by Associate Professor Chun-I Lee from National Taiwan University of Arts.

The project reinterprets traditional puppetry culture by incorporating VR technology, robotic arms, eye-tracking, motion capture, and other technologies. This allows audiences to experience the joy and beauty of puppet manipulation from entirely new perspectives.

Showcasing the Correspondence Between Technology and the Natural Environment through Technological Innovation

Associate Professor June-Hao Hou, the chief project leader of the Exotic Nature team and Graduate Institute of Architecture, will display his projects in this exhibition. These include 'Non-Carbon-Based Botany' by Associate Professor June-Hao Hou, 'Deduction of Alien Life' by Professor Cheng Hsu from the Institute of Applied Arts, 'Echo of the Earth' by Assistant Professor Ivan Liu from the Institute of Applied Arts, and 'Thermal Perception of Energy Flow' by Assistant Professor Sheng-Kai Tseng of the TDIS Center Team.

The overall plan combines space design, industrial design, and ecological design. It uses technology to detect human voice, touch, temperature, and other sensory phenomena to demonstrate the correspondence between technology and the natural environment.

'Diffusion Couple of Art and Technology' brings together the country's most forward-looking technology and art teams, applying many of the latest technologies. This collaboration leads us to imagine and reflect on the impact and changes that future technological development will bring to the natural environment and the living world.
