NYCU and Yang Ming Marine Transport Launch AI Partnership for Smart Shipping and Sustainable Supply Chains

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation are joining forces to accelerate AI-powered smart shipping and sustainable supply chain innovation, merging NYCU’s expertise in artificial intelligence and data analytics with operational maritime experience.
On May 19 at Yang Ming Marine Transport’s Taipei headquarters, the industry-academia agreement was signed to integrate NYCU’s AI and data science research with shipping applications as the maritime sector transforms digitally and environmentally.
Applying AI Research to Real-World Maritime Challenges
As global supply chains adapt to uncertainty, digital transformation, and net-zero goals, the shipping industry seeks AI solutions to improve efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
Through the partnership, NYCU College of Management researchers will collaborate with Yang Ming Marine Transport using operational data and authentic shipping scenarios to create AI systems for route optimization, fleet management, carbon emissions tracking, intelligent logistics, and sustainable supply chain solutions. The partnership fosters executive-level research exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling NYCU faculty and students to tackle large-scale maritime and digital governance challenges.

He stated that the NYCU-Yang Ming collaboration supports Taiwan’s efforts to unify academic research and industry innovation, strengthening smart shipping and global competitiveness.

NYCU is expanding partnerships across AI, semiconductors, healthcare, smart mobility, and sustainability. The Yang Ming collaboration extends interdisciplinary AI research to the maritime sector, where digital change drives competitiveness.
