NYCU and TSMC Expand Semiconductor Talent Development Through Summer Courses
NYCU and TSMC Launch Summer Semiconductor Program to Cultivate Future Talent

As global demand for semiconductor talent continues to rise, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is expanding its longstanding collaboration with TSMC through a summer third-semester program that provides students with earlier, more flexible access to semiconductor education.

The program, organized by NYCU’s Department of Microelectronics and supported by TSMC, will open course registration on June 25. In addition to NYCU students, the courses will be available to university students across Taiwan, creating broader opportunities for learners from diverse academic backgrounds to explore the semiconductor field during the summer break.

According to NYCU Dean of Academic Affairs Yong-Sheng Chen, the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening industry-aligned education while responding to growing workforce needs in advanced technologies. A total of 760 course seats will be offered this summer, enabling students to gain foundational and advanced knowledge in semiconductor-related disciplines. The program is open not only to students in engineering and science fields but also to those seeking interdisciplinary exposure to semiconductor technologies.

Building Semiconductor Expertise Through Flexible Learning

The summer curriculum includes nine courses covering key areas of semiconductor engineering: Circuit Theory, Logic Design, Electronics I, Electronics II, Electronics Laboratory, Differential Equations, Semiconductor Device Physics, Semiconductor Processing Technology, and Semiconductor Laboratory.

Ming-Dou Ker, Chair of the Department of Microelectronics, said the program was designed to allow students to systematically build semiconductor knowledge without affecting their regular academic-year schedules. “By making use of the summer months, students can engage with the core concepts and technologies that underpin the semiconductor industry while maintaining flexibility in their degree plans,” Ker said.

The program also serves students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. For those outside electrical engineering, electronics, or semiconductor-related disciplines, the courses provide an entry point into one of the world’s most strategically important industries while helping develop interdisciplinary expertise.



Students from the University System of Taiwan consortium may also count their coursework toward future applications for double majors or minors in NYCU’s semiconductor engineering programs.

Accelerating Academic and Career Pathways

For students already pursuing semiconductor-related degrees, the third-semester structure offers an opportunity to accelerate graduation planning and academic progression. Some students may be able to complete undergraduate degree requirements within three years, allowing them to pursue graduate studies or enter the workforce earlier.

The initiative builds upon NYCU’s extensive partnership with TSMC in semiconductor education. Together, the two organizations have established four TSMC-certified semiconductor programs, with industry experts and university faculty jointly participating in curriculum development and review to ensure alignment with evolving industry trends and practical workforce needs.

The summer program represents a further step in that collaboration, providing students with more flexible learning pathways while strengthening Taiwan’s semiconductor talent ecosystem.

Strengthening Taiwan’s Semiconductor Workforce

As semiconductors become increasingly central to global technological development and economic competitiveness, demand for highly trained professionals continues to grow worldwide.

Through partnerships with industry leaders such as TSMC, NYCU aims to equip students with both rigorous academic training and a deeper understanding of emerging industry opportunities. More than 700 student enrollments are expected in this year’s summer program, helping cultivate the next generation of semiconductor talent and supporting the industry's long-term development.

因應全球半導體產業快速發展與高階人才需求持續攀升,陽明交大攜手台積電布局人才培育。今年暑假特別推出第三學期半導體專項課程,將於6月25日開放選課,除本校外,也開放全國大學生把握暑期進修機會。

陳永昇教務長表示,此次暑期課程由半導體工程學系規劃辦理,並獲得台積電支持,除強化專業能力同時也強調與產業接軌。課程預計開放760個修課名額,協助學生及早接觸半導體專業知識與技術。

半導體學系柯明道主任表示,暑期課程內容包括《電路學》、《邏輯設計》、《電子學(一)》、《電子學(二)》、《電子實驗》、《微分方程》、《半導體元件物理》、《半導體製程技術》及《半導體實驗》等九門課程。希望讓學生在不影響正常學期修課安排下,利用暑假兩個月時間系統性接觸半導體核心知識與技術。柯明道指出,對非電機、電子或半導體相關科系學生而言,暑期課程有助於建立半導體領域基礎知識與跨領域專長;台聯大系統四校的學生可將相關修課記錄作為未來申請陽明交大半導體工程學系雙主修或輔系的重要依據。
 



對相關領域學生而言,則可透過暑期修課加速完成畢業學分規劃,有機會於三年內完成學士學位,提前銜接研究所深造或投入產業發展。

本校長期與台積電合作推動半導體人才培育,目前已共同建置四項經台積電認證之半導體學程,由產業專家與校內教師共同參與課程規劃與審查,確保教學內容符合產業趨勢與實務需求。此次第三學期課程亦是雙方深化合作的重要成果,希望透過更彈性的修課機制,吸引更多優秀學生投入半導體領域。

近年半導體產業已成為全球科技競爭核心,人才需求持續增加。透過與台積電等產業夥伴合作,學生除能獲得扎實理論訓練,也能及早了解產業發展方向與未來職涯機會。此次暑期課程預計培育七百多人次的大學生學習,進一步擴大半導體人才庫,回應產業發展需求。
