NYCU shares deep historical roots with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University (Chengdu), and Beijing Jiaotong University, collectively known as the “Five Jiao Tong Schools.” These shared ties were once again celebrated during the alumni gathering. Before the pandemic, the Five Schools Alumni Gathering in the Americas regularly hosted events fostering collaboration and networking among alumni. This year’s event marked the long-awaited return of these cherished gatherings after a five-year hiatus due to the pandemic, offering a perfect opportunity for alumni to reunite.

The event was spearheaded by NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin’s tour of the U.S. East Coast, during which he visited honorary NYCU doctorate recipient Dr. James S.C. Chao and the Honorable Elaine Chao. As part of this tour, President Lin arranged the alumni gathering, which was meticulously organized by the former President of the Americas Alumni Association, Shanghai Jiao Tong alumnus Liang-Jie Chen. More than 80 alumni from various regions of the Americas attended, including alumni from NYCU, former National Yang Ming University, and young professionals from the biotech and medical fields.

Among the notable attendees were Dr. James Chao, 97 years old, and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao. Their presence added warmth and sentiment to the event as alumni reminisced about their university days and exchanged personal stories about their growth in various stages of life.

Symbolic Gift of University Badges Strengthens Alumni Ties and Paves the Way for Future Collaborations

President Lin presented NYCU’s university badges as gifts to the alumni, expressing his heartfelt gratitude and well-wishes. He voiced his pride and joy in seeing such strong participation and the extensive resources among alumni. This gathering rekindled old friendships and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation and collaboration.

Alumni engaged in meaningful exchanges, sharing their professional expertise and life experiences, sparking new partnership ideas. This event opened a new chapter in alumni relations and highlighted the deep connections and shared vision between NYCU and the broader Jiao Tong alumni community.

The “Five Schools Alumni Gathering in the Americas” success symbolized the profound bonds between alumni and underscored NYCU’s critical role in the global alumni network. Looking ahead, NYCU is committed to fostering more exchanges and collaboration opportunities among its global alumni, ensuring these timeless connections thrive.
