NYCU Joins Taiwan’s First High School–University–Research Alliance to Cultivate Future Scientists

Around the world, countries are rethinking when future scientists should begin their research training. Rather than waiting until university, many are giving students opportunities to engage in authentic research during high school, recognizing that scientific talent is cultivated through years of curiosity, experimentation and mentorship.

To strengthen Taiwan’s research talent pipeline, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) joined Academia Sinica, the Ministry of Education (MOE), National Taiwan University (NTU), National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on July 29 to inaugurate the Preparatory Office of the National Taiwan Science Experimental High School and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

The initiative establishes Taiwan’s first collaborative platform linking a research-focused high school with leading universities and Academia Sinica, creating a seamless pathway from secondary education to university and national research.

Preparing the Next Generation of Scientists

Through the partnership, students will gain early access to university laboratories, research mentorship, project-based learning and academic exchanges, allowing them to experience authentic scientific research well before entering university.

NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin said future researchers will need more than disciplinary expertise as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biomedical science and other emerging technologies become increasingly interconnected. “With strengths spanning both medicine and engineering, NYCU has long championed interdisciplinary education and research,” Lin said. “By opening our research environment to students at an earlier stage, we hope to inspire scientific curiosity while creating a seamless pathway from high school to university and national research institutions.”

Drawing on its expertise in medicine, biomedical science, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, photonics and information technology, NYCU will provide students with opportunities to explore frontier research across multiple disciplines and develop the skills needed for future scientific careers.


Academia Sinica President James C.Y. Chen said cultivating scientific talent requires sustained collaboration between education and research institutions. “Scientific breakthroughs often result from years of persistence and the willingness to explore the unknown,” Chen said. “Introducing students to systematic research methods early helps foster scientific reasoning, critical thinking and independent inquiry.”

Strengthening Taiwan’s Research Ecosystem

NYCU has long promoted interdisciplinary talent development through partnerships with high schools, science outreach, cross-disciplinary curricula and international collaborations.

The university will continue working with Academia Sinica, the Ministry of Education and partner institutions to integrate educational and research resources, expand opportunities for young researchers and strengthen Taiwan’s long-term scientific competitiveness by cultivating globally minded research talent.

面對全球科研競爭日益激烈,人才已成為國家最重要的戰略資源。隨著人工智慧、半導體、生醫科技等前瞻科技快速發展,科研人才的培育也逐漸向高中階段延伸,透過研究導向的學習環境,讓學生及早接觸前瞻科學議題與研究方法,已成為世界各國培育未來科研人才的重要方向。

為深化我國科研人才培育體系,國立陽明交通大學於7月29日與中央研究院、教育部、國立臺灣大學、國立成功大學及國立清華大學,共同為「國立臺灣科學實驗高級中等學校籌備處」揭牌,並簽署合作備忘錄(MOU),共同建立臺灣首個串聯高中、大學與國家研究機構的科研人才培育合作平台,打造完整的科研教育銜接機制,培育具國際競爭力的下一世代科研人才。

此次合作備忘錄由中央研究院院長陳建仁、國立臺灣科學實驗高級中等學校代理籌備處主任朱元隆、國立臺灣大學校長陳文章、國立清華大學校長高為元、國立陽明交通大學校長林奇宏及國立成功大學校長沈孟儒共同簽署;教育部部長鄭英耀、教育部次長朱俊彰及國教署署長彭富源等人共同出席見證,展現政府、學研機構與大學攜手培育科研人才的共同承諾。


串聯高中、大學與研究機構 培育科研新世代

國立臺灣科學實驗高級中等學校是臺灣首個串聯高中、大學及國家研究機構的科研人才培育平台。未來,陽明交大將與中央研究院及各合作大學共同建構研究導向的人才培育機制,提供研究人員指導、專題研究、實驗室學習、科研交流及學術資源共享等多元學習資源,讓學生在高中階段便有機會接觸前瞻科研議題,培養科學思維、研究能力與跨域視野。

 
 



林奇宏校長表示,隨著人工智慧、生醫科技、半導體等前瞻科技快速發展,未來科研人才除了扎實的專業知識,更需要具備跨域整合能力、創新思維與自主探索精神。陽明交大兼具醫學與工程雙核心優勢,長期推動跨域教育與研究,並透過附屬高中及各項高中合作計畫,持續深化高中與大學的教育銜接,累積科研人才培育經驗。此次參與科學實驗高中計畫,將進一步整合學校在醫學、生醫、人工智慧、半導體、光電及資訊等領域的研究能量,讓具有科研潛力的學生更早接觸真實研究環境,建立從高中、大學到研究機構的完整培育鏈,為未來投入科研發展奠定基礎。

中央研究院院長陳建仁表示,科研人才的養成是一項長期工程,需要教育與研究體系共同投入。科學突破往往來自長期的堅持與勇於嘗試,若能自學生時期開始接觸系統性的研究方法,將有助於及早培養科學思維與獨立思考能力。透過此次合作,中研院將結合跨領域研究能量,與各合作大學共同提供研究指導、專題研究、實驗室學習及學術資源,讓學生在高中階段便有機會接軌世界前瞻研究。


建構完整科研人才培育鏈 厚植臺灣科研競爭力

長期以來,陽明交大持續推動跨域人才培育,透過高中合作、科學教育推廣、跨域課程及國際交流等多元機制,鼓勵年輕學子投入科研探索,培養兼具創新能力與國際視野的新世代人才。

未來,陽明交大將持續深化與中央研究院、教育部及各合作夥伴的合作,整合教育與研究資源,建立更完善的科研人才培育機制,讓更多具科研潛力的年輕學子及早投入研究、接軌國際,持續為臺灣培育能夠面對全球科技挑戰、引領知識創新的下一世代科研人才。
