New students:
\r\nApply along with the admission application. When filling out the online admission application, mark “Apply for NYCU Scholarship” in the scholarship section for your application to be considered. Submit the admission application along with other required documents and upload them to the NYCU online application system. Your application will be reviewed by the committee.

\r\nCurrent student:
\r\nApply through the application system during the application period announced on the OIA website. Your application will be reviewed by the committee.

The result of the NYCU New Student Scholarship will be listed in the admission letter. The awards are divided into two categories: monthly stipend and tuition scholarship (tuition waiver or tuition reduction). The monthly stipend and tuition scholarship can be awarded together or separately. For recipients awarded a tuition scholarship, the admission will indicate that you receive a "tuition waiver or tuition reduction (tuition rate charged as local students)" award.

It usually takes about 6-8 weeks for newly admitted students to receive their first time stipend deposit in their Post Office account after completing the registration procedure.
\r\nIf it is your first time in Taiwan, please apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and then open an account at the Post Office with your ARC. The NYCU scholarship will be disbursed into your Post Office account.
\r\n
\r\nSubmit a hard copy of your ARC and the passbook of your account to the OIA for the disbursement process. Since the scholarship procedure takes 2-3 weeks, including the time for applying for the ARC and opening an account, the total time to receive scholarship would be 6 to 8 weeks. Due to individual circumstances, the time of receiving the scholarship may vary.

\r\nHere are the steps:
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\t- Pay for tuition and other fees
\r\n\t- Apply for Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)
\r\n\t- Open a Post Office banking account
\r\n\t- Submit your tuition payment receipt, ARC, and Post Office account passbook to the OIA.
\r\n\t- OIA and other administrative offices will process the scholarship disbursement, which will take a total of 2-3 weeks to deposit into your account.

You will be able to apply for a renewal award during the scholarship applicaiton period, and receive a renewal scholarship after your current award period.
\r\nPlease follow the requirement of the scholarship regulation to keep your eligibility for scholarship application.

The tuition waiver award covers your basic tuition and credit fee. However, you still need to pay for other incidental fees, such as dormitories, insurance, and campus facilities. Please note that the tuition waiver only covers the Fall and/or Spring semester and does not cover the summer semester.

Be aware of your scholarship duration and apply for a renewal during the application period announced by the OIA.
\r\nApplicants must complete the scholarship application process before the deadline. Please note that late application is not considered.

Maintain a total average grade:
\r\n\r\n\r\n\t- Undergraduate students: GPA 3.0
\r\n\t- Graduate students: GPA 3.5
\r\n
\r\n\r\nGraduate students who have met the credit requirements to graduate but do not have grades because they took no courses should attach a research proposal or their thesis/dissertation description.
\r\n
\r\nPlease note that meeting the grade requirement does not guarantee award status, as the award allocation is subject to committee review and annual budget conditions.

In principle, we will deposit the monthly stipend on the 10th of every month. However, the Office of International Affairs is not primarily responsible for the remittance, the exact dates for the money transfer may vary due to the involvement of other divisions. OIA can only provide an approximate expected date. If the stipend is not deposited on the specified date or the date announced by the OIA, please wait patiently.
\r\n
\r\nAdditionally, there are occasions when the stipend may be remitted later than the specified date:
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\t- The first two months stipend for newly admitted students
\r\n\t- The January stipend due to the change of the fiscal year
\r\n\t- The beginning of the semester
\r\n\t- Other irresistible factors
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
The stipend will not be processed under the following conditions:
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\t- A recipient exhibits unacceptable behavior or conduct and violates University regulations on or off-campus, leading the committee to deem them unqualified for NYCU scholarship.
\r\n\t- A recipient has departed or withdrawn from the university for over 30 days without any notifications or pre-approved written statements or documents from their academic advisor.
\r\n\t- Scholarships will not be processed when award recipients leave the university upon graduation, suspend their studies, or drop out for any reason. If this occurs after the 15th day of the month, the scholarship disbursed for that month will not be reclaimed.

Awardees of the scholarship must take Chinese language courses.
\r\nUndergraduate students must enroll in at least 4 Mandarin courses during their studies; graduate students must take at least 2 Mandarin courses during their studies.
\r\n
\r\nIf awardees have taken Mandarin courses in Taiwan or have passed national-level Mandarin text (e.g., TOCFL), they may provide related proof (TOCFL Level 2 or higher) to be exempt from taking these courses. Alternatively, they can take a Chinese Language placement test held by the NYCU Chinese Language Center and use the passing certificate to waive the Chinese language requirement for the scholarship.

\r\nSome departments/institutes may also require Chinese language courses as a graduation requirement. Please consult your department/institute for course waiving criteria.
\r\n
\r\n
The maximum award duration is 2 years for master’s student and 5 years for Ph.D. students. For undergraduate students, the maximum duration is determined by the regulated study periods in their respective departments.
\r\n
\r\nStudents who have reached their maximum scholarship durations and have maintained a total average grade of 3.0 or above during their undergraduate years and 3.5 or above during their master’s or Ph.D. years, may apply for a tuition scholarship at the same rate as local students. To do so, they must provide supporting documents from their mentors or advisors and receive approval form the Scholarship Committee.

Students who receive NYCU scholarships can also apply for other non-government-funded scholarships. However, some scholarship providers may have additional requirements towards the award recipient’s current stipend status. We suggest that students confirm with the scholarship provider in advance.
