Origins
In accordance with Article 25 of the Education Act for Indigenous Peoples, in order to establish a cultural support system for aboriginal students and to promote a multi-ethnic friendly campus environment, if the number or percentage of indigenous students in a tertiary institution reaches a certain level, the central education authority shall encourage the tertiary institution to establish an Indigenous Students Resource Center, and designate dedicated staff to provide guidance to Indigenous students in their life and studies. The number or percentage of Indigenous Students shall be announced by the central education authority in conjunction with the central authorities in charge of indigenous peoples. With regard to the aforementioned funding requirements, the central education authority and the central aboriginal people’s authority may allocate separate budgets for subsidies as necessary.

The Center will be officially established on July 1, 2020 in accordance with the aforementioned guidelines. The Center will be staffed by a Director and a Commissioner who will provide guidance to Aboriginal students on life, schoolwork, and employment, as well as assist in career development and ethnic education programs.
