Subsidies and Awards for Students

NYCU- In order to encourage graduate students to attend and present papers at international conferences abroad and to accelerate their understanding of new specialist knowledge, technological developments and new research methods
- Eligibility for Application: Priority will be given to the University’s PhD students (excl. those on in-service PhD programs); Master’s students (excl. those on in-service master’s programs) may apply if they have received other matching grants.
- Grant Principles and Review Mechanism
- Applicants shall be awarded once in the same fiscal year (Jan 1 to Dec 31 each year).
- There are two stages of review: the preliminary review and the second review.
- The preliminary review is conducted in writing by the responsible entity.
- In the second review, the Office of Research and Development convenes a review meeting to examine the amount of scholarship.
- Guidelines
- In order to motivate students to participate in important international competitions.
- Eligibility for Application: Applicants, whether individuals or team members, must be current students of the University, excluding those on in-service master’s programs, and have participated in a major international competition (excl. academic thesis competitions) with a project published in the name of the University.
- Grant Principles and Review Mechanism
- Grants are limited to the airfare, registration fee, living expenses and material costs for individual or group participation in international competitions abroad. If the international competition is held domestically or online, only the entry and material costs will be subsidized. Each student may apply for the grant once a year.
- The list of important international competitions submitted by colleges serves as the priority candidates for funding. After the Office of Research and Development has convened a vetting meeting to examine the applications, the responsible office will inform the applicants of the results.
- Guidelines
- In order to motivate students to engage in research, to enhance the academic culture and strengthen the research and development ability of students, and to further boost the international reputation of the University.
- Eligibility for Application:
- Students who have participated in international or national skills competitions or competitions involving special projects or their field of study (excl. academic thesis, sports or recreational competitions) in the name of the University during their studies and who have not been awarded any prize money, monetary rewards or trophies for the following ranking may apply for incentives in accordance with the provisions hereof.
- Students who have presented an oral or poster paper at an international conference in the University’s name during their studies, and who are the corresponding author or first author of the paper, and who have been honored with a Paper Award equivalent to a paper of excellence at the international conference they attended in that year.
- Students who have completed their thesis for submission during their study period and are the correspondent or first author of the paper must be affiliated with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
- Grant Principles and Review Mechanism
- The Office of Research and Development shall convene a review meeting to examine students’ excellent research results and determine the amount of the incentive to be awarded based on individual research data submitted by the applicant.
- Guidelines
- Lam Research Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Lam Research) has established a thesis award and outstanding science scholarship at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (hereinafter referred to as the University) in order to encourage graduate students from eight colleges of science, engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, international semiconductor industry, optoelectronics, intelligent science and green energy, and industrial and academic innovation research to engage in research on semiconductor-related processes, technologies, principles and materials, and to enhance Taiwan’s R&D capabilities and standards in this field in order to cultivate outstanding scientific and technological talents.
- Period of Application:According to the announcement of each academic year.(Usually in the 2nd semester)
- Eligibility for Application:
- Outstanding (Female) Science Scholarship: Only for second-year master’s degree students (excluding those who have withdrawn or transferred) from eight colleges of science, engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, international semiconductor industry, industrial and academic innovation research, intelligent science and green energy, and optoelectronics.
- Thesis Award: Limited to recent graduates of doctoral programs in the eight colleges of science, engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, international semiconductor industry, optoelectronics, intelligent science and green energy, and industrial and academic innovation research.
- Aategories, quotas and awards
- Outstanding (Female) Science Scholarship: Outstanding (Female) Science and Technology Scholarship: Four persons (at least one of whom is a female) per year, each receiving NT$80,000 and a certificate.
- Thesis Award:
- First Prize for Doctoral Thesis: One person per year, with a prize of NT$100,000 and a prize of NT$50,000 for the supervising professor.
- Excellence Award for Doctoral Thesis: Two persons per year, with a prize of NT$80,000 each and a prize of NT$40,000 for the supervising professor.
- Guidelines
- To commemorate her father’s contribution and to encourage students of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (hereinafter referred to as the University) to engage in research and development in the field of biomedical information and telecommunications, and to enhance our country's research and development capabilities and standards in this field so as to nurture outstanding scientific and technological talents, Ms. Hsieh Yi-Hong has established the Xian-Qi Fang BioICT Research Thesis Award and set up these Award Regulations.
- Eligibility for Application: The recent graduates of the Master’s and Ph.D. programs are eligible to apply for the Xian-Qi Fang BioICT Research Thesis Award if they are involved in research in the field of bio-medical information and technology and their dissertations (M.S. and Ph.D. programs) are recommended by their supervising professors and certified to have passed the University’s oral examination or graduated.
- Period of Application:According to the announcement of each academic year.(Usually in the 2nd semester)

- The first prize for doctoral dissertation is awarded to one person each year, and the prize money is NT$40,000.
- The first prize for masters dissertation is awarded to one person each year, and the prize money is NT$20,000.

External Subsudues and Awards- The National Science and Technology Counil (NSTC) encourages graduate students to attend international academic conferences, present their research results, develop their international perspective, strengthen their research capabilities, and establish the relationship for international academic cooperation.
- Eligibility for Application: Graduate students, who are not enrolled in a doctoral or master’s in-service program at the applicant institution, may apply to the applicant institution they belong to.
- Applicaiton procedure:
- Graduate students need to log on to the "Academic Research Service Portal" (on the home page of the NSTC website).
- Students have to prepare the following documents online and send them to the applicant institution for confirmation. The applicant institution will review their qualifications and documents, and then submit them to NSTC.
- The application form and the abstract of the paper to be published (only the paper published for the first time).
- Acceptance letter.
- Recommendation letter from the supervising professor (indicating the foreign language ability)
- Other useful documents for review (such as the full text of the paper).
- The last submission date of the application institution is the first day of the month
before the first day of conference. Whenever the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, national holiday or any other statutory holiday, the deadline will become the next working day. Application will not be accepted after the deadline.
- Funding Principles:
- Round-trip direct airfare (Round-trip economy class airfare for the most direct flight from Taiwan to the conference venue)

- Each graduate student can only be granted once per year. About the co-authored papers, the grant shall also be limited to one graduate student per paper.
- After the application is received, the relevant academic departments of NSTC will conduct an review. The review will be completed within one month from the day after the receipt of the application. The results will be delivered to the applicant institution. the review period may be extended when needed.
