Responsible Innovation and Social Studies of Emerging Technologies
我們很榮幸邀請到美國維吉尼亞大學(University of Virginia, UVA)
工程與社會學系的 Rider W. Foley 副教授來臺訪問與學術交流。
Foley 教授是當代著名的「負責任創新 (Responsible Innovation)」、區域創新、永續發展、奈米科技與社會等研究領域之領先學者。他的研究著重於探討創新流程及其社會影響，特別是政策與治理與科技發展之互動，以應對迫切的永續挑戰。講座內容精彩，絕不容錯過與國際跨域學者面對面交流的機會！講座中也邀請清大科管所所長王振源教授、陽明交大科技與社會研究所顧彩璇教授擔任與談人，共同探討區域創新政策、科技發展、地緣政治的觀察。

This talk focuses on the interplay between inclusivity and exclusivity in the investor-entrepreneur relationship. The theoretical backdrop for this talk will be inclusivity, a facet of responsible research & innovation (RRI), and will explore the powerful network dynamics that perpetuate exclusivity. A review of the hero myth, which is replete within narratives of innovation, will set the stage and provide context for discussion. Next, the talk will explore communication patterns and social network dynamics that shape investor-entrepreneur relations. Then, evidence that depicts the influence of religious affiliation, cultural belonging, gender identity, and ethnicity will reveal troubling patterns in shaping the exclusivity of social networks. I will then share strategies pursued by entrepreneurs and investors that do not conform to the established religious and identity politics to circumvent exclusive social networks that pervade cultures of high-tech innovation. In closing, I want to critically reflect on the concept of inclusion and suggest that exclusion remains are far more powerful force in the social networks.
