The 2025 architectural exhibition at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) centers around the theme “Not So Distant.” Co-curated by students and faculty from the Graduate Institute of Architecture, the exhibition offers a fresh take on architectural design.

Rather than focusing solely on the physical works, it delves into the intricate networks of ideas and connections behind each project. These works are nodes linked through concepts, techniques, and key themes, creating a tapestry of interconnected narratives.

Dual Experiences: Physical and Virtual

This year’s exhibition breaks away from traditional architectural showcases by providing an on-site and online interactive experience. The exhibition space features 16 design studios’ works distributed throughout the venue, guiding visitors along pathways that transition from open to private, transparent to enclosed, cultivating a layered sensory journey.

The ground floor’s layout employs subtle flooring changes to suggest boundaries, allowing viewers to move freely and sense the underlying links between projects. The upper floor features suspended curtains, offering a closer look at the details of the works while maintaining a semi-transparent, interactive atmosphere.

In addition to the physical exhibition, visitors can scan QR codes to access a digital version. The online exhibit transforms the relationships and connections between works using cutting-edge visualization techniques into a dynamic network map. Each click unveils a new perspective, taking the audience on a journey beyond the traditional constraints of an exhibition.

Spotlight on Local Architecture

A special lecture highlighting the value of local Hsinchu architecture will be held on March 15. Esteemed architects Chih-Cheng Lin and Po-Yang Lin will share the inspiration and creative processes behind their signature works. A subsequent discussion will explore how architecture can seamlessly blend with local culture.

Connecting Through Design

The 2025 NYCU architectural exhibition is more than a showcase of individual works; it’s a space where ideas and relationships come to life. Projects are no longer isolated entities but are redefined to foster a deeper connection with the audience, opening up endless possibilities for dialogue between design and culture.

Whether through immersive on-site experiences or boundary-expanding virtual interactions, this architectural exhibition will leave you with a newfound appreciation for how close imagination and reality can be.
