After six months of preparation, the 2025 National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony unveiled a spectacular show on February 22nd. Held in Formosa TV's CYANS LED Virtual Studio, six outstanding alumni from industry, government, and academia stood on a dreamlike stage woven with light and imagery, wearing ceremonial capes as if appearing in a cosmic celebration. The audience was immersed in dazzling visual effects and moving award stories. (2025 Outstanding Alumni Profiles, see link for details)
This wasn't just an award ceremony, a feast combining technology, art, and personal narratives, and a vivid lesson in industry-academic collaboration.
This wasn't just an award ceremony, a feast combining technology, art, and personal narratives, and a vivid lesson in industry-academic collaboration.

Unlike previous years, this year's distinguished alumni award ceremony moved to the Formosa TV studio.
The event broke from traditional award formats by integrating the Institute of Applied Arts, the Office of International Promotion and Outreach (OIPO), and Cyans Visual Creative Co's cutting-edge LED virtual technology.
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Chi-Min Hsieh and CEO Yen-Shen Chen, doctoral student Hsiao-Ching Chou and her team crafted an event full of storytelling and emotional depth. The ceremony used immersive imaging technology to condense the alumni's remarkable life journeys into touching visual narratives, allowing everyone present to transcend time and space, sharing the perseverance and effort behind these outstanding achievements.

The preparation process wasn't without challenges. Cyans Visual Creative Co's LED virtual studio—Taiwan's first facility built to Netflix Partner Center standards—offered unlimited possibilities but presented higher technical challenges for creators. Xiao-Jing Chou laughed as she explained: "We had to find a balance between innovative technology and artistic expression to transform these imaginative ideas into reality." This became the most touching aspect of the ceremony.

From the opening video to the award moments, from each change in stage lighting to every frame of background imagery, the ceremony demonstrated close collaboration between academia and industry.
The ceremony honored distinguished alumni and served as a living example of how industry-academic partnerships can drive the integration of technology and creativity while leading future innovation possibilities. Associate Professor Chi-Min Hsieh mentioned that this wasn't just an award ceremony but a showcase of cross-boundary technology and art: "I hope there will be more opportunities to combine new technology with artistic performance to create more stunning visual experiences."
This year's NYCU Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony wrote a new chapter in industry-academic collaboration through new technology and emotional storytelling, profoundly conveying that technology and humanities aren't necessarily in opposition—each collision between industry and academia can generate amazing brilliance.
