On July 10, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) partnered with Alpha Ring Co., Ltd. to establish a nuclear fusion laboratory at NYCU’s Tainan Guiren Campus. This is Alpha Ring’s fourth laboratory globally. Together, we are committed to creating a “nuclear fusion ecosystem” and advancing the development and application of nuclear fusion technology.

Industry Leaders Gather to Emphasize Future Trends in AI and Energy Applications
At the opening ceremony jointly held by Alpha Ring and NYCU, notable guests included Alpha Ring General Manager Richard Chang, NYCU Tainan Branch Deputy Director and College of Photonics Professor Wei Lee, Tainan Deputy Mayor Qing-Hui Zhao, Etron Technology Chairman Nicky Lu, former National Taiwan University President Si-Chen Lee, and former National Cheng Kung University President Huey-Jen Su. During his speech, Nicky Lu emphasized, “AI and energy applications will mutually depend on each other in the future. We must start preparing now to keep up with future energy trends.”
Alpha Ring unveiled the world’s first “Alpha-E Nuclear Fusion Education System.” This system includes software and hardware, courses, teachers, and consulting services. It can simulate various nuclear fusion reactions and conduct fusion experiments with elements such as deuterium-tritium or hydrogen-boron. This allows teachers and students to go beyond textbooks and engage in practical teaching and understanding of multiple nuclear fusion reactions. The related courses are expected to be offered as early as September next semester. NYCU will cultivate outstanding talents in nuclear fusion through this education system, further promoting the education and popularization of nuclear fusion technology.
Additionally, the opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by internet knowledge influencer Dr. Jefferey Chiu, who discussed the applications and job opportunities in nuclear fusion technology. He stated, “Taiwan must start investing in talent for nuclear fusion education now. If we wait until others have made progress and then follow, we will always be just a subcontractor.” The successful hosting of this event marks a significant step forward for Taiwan in the education and research of nuclear fusion technology, moving towards becoming an indispensable part of the global nuclear fusion industry.

Advancing Nuclear Fusion Technology: Talent Development is Key to Progress and Innovation
Nuclear fusion technology is seen as the future of clean energy, with TIME (magazine) listing it as a key technology for future energy in 2015. Traditional nuclear power plants have primarily used nuclear fission reactions to release heat for power generation, but they face issues with nuclear waste disposal. In contrast, new nuclear fusion power generation offers advantages such as no carbon dioxide emissions, minimal nuclear waste, abundant fuel, high safety, and low environmental impact.
To address global climate challenges and align with the net-zero carbon emission trend, countries are actively promoting the development of nuclear fusion technology. They aim to achieve technological breakthroughs to solve global environmental and energy resource issues. Talent development is a key factor in driving technological progress and innovation.

Wei Lee, Deputy Director of NYCU Tainan Branch, stated that nuclear fusion power generation is a crucial direction for future energy development. NYCU has been committed to researching and developing nuclear fusion power generation technology. Collaboration with Alpha Ring will further enhance the university’s research capabilities in nuclear fusion.
The nuclear fusion laboratory jointly established by NYCU and Alpha Ring will focus on collaborating with the industry to develop nuclear fusion modules and system designs, becoming Alpha Ring’s global platform for technology transfer and commercialization. It will also be dedicated to promoting the research and application of nuclear fusion technology, cultivating talent in related fields, and contributing to achieving global sustainable development goals.
