National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) 's College of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) celebrated major milestones on May 16. In addition to welcoming top high school students for the second-round university admission interviews, the college unveiled a cutting-edge AI Laboratory, established with the generous support of distinguished alumnus and Phison Electronics CEO, K.S. Pua. The college introduced a groundbreaking "Million-Dollar Scholarship Program" offering extensive support in tuition, international exchange, and research opportunities to enhance its competitiveness in AI and electrical engineering education.

NYCU ECE Remains Top Choice for Elite Students

This year, the college again achieved stellar results during Taiwan's application admission phase. For the second consecutive year, 49 applicants to the Group A program scored a perfect 45 on the General Scholastic Ability Test. Students admitted to Groups B and C also included many with scores above 43, reflecting the strong recognition of the college's academic excellence and future potential.

To help candidates better understand the college's distinctive features, NYCU ECE hosted group interviews on May 16 and 23, including written assessments and career talks. Prominent alumni such as Phison CEO K.S. Pua and Realtek Senior VP Ying-Hsi Lin served as industry mentors, offering insights into tech trends and personal career experiences, bridging the academic and industrial spheres.

Next-Gen AI Lab Powered by Phison Opens at NYCU

The new AI Laboratory at NYCU ECE was officially launched on the same day. The lab is powered by Phison's proprietary AI-DAPTIV+ Hybrid Memory Expansion Technology, creating an AI server that integrates high-performance GPUs and ultra-fast SSDs to deliver a memory pool equivalent to 16TB VRAM. This infrastructure can train large language models with up to 700 billion parameters, providing a powerful computational environment previously inaccessible in academic settings."

"This facility enables massive-scale AI model training—once limited to platforms with billion-dollar investments—on a single system," said Associate Chair Professor Hong-Han Shuai. "It marks a revolutionary leap for academic research and will be a launching pad for advanced AI applications in smart industry, personalized AI assistants, medical image synthesis, autonomous driving simulations, and more."

"Having benefited from NYCU's engineering education, I deeply understand the importance of this foundational support," said K.S. Pu. "As the AI era unfolds, NYCU ECE's initiative to build this lab is a key move to foster Taiwan's AI talent. I encourage students to embrace global challenges, innovate boldly, and make a real impact. Phison will continue partnering with NYCU to inject energy into Taiwan's AI development."

Million-Dollar Scholarship Program Empowers Future Innovators

NYCU ECE is committed to excellence in education and research and to providing holistic student support. The newly launched Million-Dollar Scholarship Program includes up to NT$270,000 in full tuition and freshman grants over four years. Additional awards include a NT$280,000 merit-based scholarship, a NT$300,000 international exchange scholarship, and a NT$150,000 grant for competitions and publication of academic papers.

This comprehensive support structure lifts financial barriers and empowers students to engage in learning, research, and innovation.

During the group interviews, the department also showcased several breakthrough research projects, including generative AI, multimodal understanding, large language model compression, advanced organ-on-chip technologies, human pose sensing via Wi-Fi, and digital twin platforms for low-earth-orbit satellite communication. Many of these innovations have received the prestigious" Future Tech Award from the National Science and Technology Council and have been developed in close collaboration with industry partners.

"Choosing NYCU ECE means standing at the forefront of global technology," said Professor Kai-Ten Feng, Chairman of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. "With world-class faculty, robust industry ties, and a comprehensive scholarship system, we sincerely invite all passionate future technologists to join us in shaping the future of AI and electrical engineering."
