National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) showcased our significant achievements in the field of aging innovation at the Healthy Ageing Tech Show, held at Taipei World Trade Center on August 2. NYCU established a thematic pavilion and hosted the Senior Health Innovation Technology Trends Forum, featuring multiple startup companies founded by its faculty, students, and alumni. The showcased innovations spanned diverse fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Additionally, NYCU introduced the “Gong Academy” initiative, combining technology, humanities, and medicine to promote lifelong learning and social contributions among older adults, underscoring the university’s commitment to advancing innovation in an aging society.

Additionally, NYCU introduced the “Gong Academy” initiative, combining technology, humanities, and medicine to promote lifelong learning and social contributions among older adults, underscoring the university’s commitment to advancing innovation in an aging society.
NYCU Collaborates with Startups to Pioneer Age-Friendly Designs and Healthy Living Solutions
To further solidify its academic research in practical applications, NYCU’s Industry-Academia Co-Creation Office exhibited age-friendly designs from seven startup companies at the Healthy Ageing Tech Show, held from August 2 to 4. Through five experiential activities co-hosted by NYCU and the participating companies, the university aimed to promote healthy living.

The participating startups, all founded by NYCU faculty, students, or alumni, included “Jun Kui Intelligence,” a spin-off by Distinguished Professor Jiun-In Guo of the Institute of Electronics, which presented an AI smart system for elderly and home health care. Other innovations included the “Smart Mirror” solution for senior-friendly smart homes by Singular Wings Medical, the “RayFocus 2” photodynamic massage machine by RedEye Biomedical, the “YaYiTong” home dental service platform by eKang Biomedical, the “AI Co-Creation Guiding Robot” by P-Square with multiple key patents and high-precision algorithms, the “nFOPT Smart AI Fiber Bed/Seat Mat” by HuiJia Health, which won the Young Generation - 2024 JinYang Award for the top aging technology product, and the “YiJianTong IoT Nurse Call System” by Stone Technology, which incorporates the latest IoT technology to revolutionize care processes.
Hank Huang, Director of NYCU’s Industry-Academia Co-Creation Office, highlighted that NYCU’s establishment of this office is a pioneering initiative among Taiwan’s universities. “We aim to accelerate the practical application of research outcomes within the university, expand NYCU’s influence in the field of industry-academia collaboration, enhance international industry-research co-creation value, and build an innovation ecosystem led by NYCU to increase global impact and contributions.” The forum and thematic pavilion at the expo demonstrated NYCU’s dedication to aging innovation.
Director Huang also emphasized that the primary issue in an aging society is to improve the quality of long-term care and reduce the burden on caregivers, ultimately achieving an ideal state where the elderly can live in peace. By combining the designs and products of seven nurtured startups, NYCU aims to lead breakthroughs in elderly care through technological innovation, focusing on the impact of innovation on people and society and working with various sectors to create a high-quality new life for the aging population.
First Knowledge-Based Elder Academy: “Gong Academy” Combines Technology, Medicine, and Humanities to Create a Healthy and Happy Life

NYCU publicly introduced the “Gong Academy” initiative for the first time at the Healthy Ageing Tech Show.
The show also marked the debut of the “Gong Academy” initiative, organized by NYCU’s Center for Healthy Longevity and Aging Sciences, in collaboration with the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Computer Science, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Liberal Arts College, College of Medicine, College of Pharmaceutical Science, College of Nursing, College of Management, Department of Physical Therapy and Assistive Technology in the College of Biomedical Engineering, and the Academia-Industry Consortium for Science Park in Hsinchu Taiwan. The “Gong Academy” combines technology, humanities, and medicine to offer various programs integrating health with happiness.
NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin stated that “Gong Academy” is a tribute to history and a new beginning for the future. It aims to rekindle the joy of learning among middle-aged and older adults, broaden their perspectives, and encourage them to continue contributing to society. “Gong Academy” facilitates knowledge exchange, health practices, and interdisciplinary learning and emphasizes humanistic care and social contributions. By giving back to the campus and society through “Gong Academy,” NYCU hopes to take a significant step toward altering Taiwan’s aging population trends.
