On October 19, Young Liu, Chairman of Hon Hai Technology Group, delivered a keynote at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) EMBA Lan Jen Lecture themed “New Wisdom in Business: Corporate Transformation and Management Practices.” His speech attracted over 200 corporate executives to discuss the critical insights and vision guiding Hon Hai’s transformation.

The Lan Jen Lecture, founded to honor the contributions of Academician Lan-Jen Chu, reflects the vision of former National Chiao Tung University President Chun-Yen Chang. It aims to inspire and support Taiwanese businesses as they navigate transformative challenges. Invited as this year’s distinguished speaker, Liu opened his address with a genuine approach, emphasizing that he was not simply presenting but rather sharing insights from his life journey.

Leadership Essentials: Delegation and Sharing

Liu believes a leader’s core responsibility lies in effective “delegation and sharing” to maximize team potential. He noted four qualities vital to effective leadership: an inspiring vision, communication ability, keen observation, and resilient perseverance. At Hon Hai, these traits are encapsulated in the company’s straightforward but powerful guiding principle: “Legal, Compliant, and True to Our Word.” This mantra, Liu said, is a cornerstone of Hon Hai’s ongoing progress.

Personal Reflections: Sharing Fuels Growth

Liu is convinced that “sharing” drives social progress. Reflecting on his child’s experience with “sharing lessons” in kindergarten, Liu recognized the value of sharing. He encouraged attendees to embrace sharing as a way to foster collective development. He emphasized that patents protect innovation, motivating more people to share and contribute to societal growth. Additionally, Liu urged everyone to prioritize, practice gratitude, and consider these as foundations for personal development.

Patience and Persistence: The Challenge of Transformation

When asked about the challenges encountered in transformation, Liu emphasized that Hon Hai’s transition is deeply rooted in preserving Founder Terry Gou’s legacy of four decades. Patience, he said, is the most valuable trait on this journey. He described the commitment and patience required to alter the operations of a massive organization, asserting that only through unwavering cultural change can a company truly move toward sustainable growth.

This inspiring lecture provided profound insights for the corporate leaders in attendance, reinforcing the Lan Jen Lecture as a vital platform for fostering transformative industry thinking and corporate evolution.
