NYCU Faculty and Student Honored with Four IEEE Awards, Setting New Records in Academia and at IEDM

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) has achieved an unprecedented milestone at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM), the world’s most prestigious event in electronic devices and semiconductors. NYCU set a historic record by winning four major awards, marking the most accolades ever achieved by a single university in the conference’s history.
To honor the late Lifetime Chair Professor Simon Min Sze of NYCU for his global contributions to semiconductor education, the IEEE presented the IEEE EDS Simon Min Sze Education Award, named in his memory. This highest honor was jointly received by Professor Sze’s family and NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin.
In addition, three outstanding scholars and one doctoral graduate from NYCU were honored this year:

In addition, three outstanding scholars and one doctoral graduate from NYCU were honored this year:
- Yushan Scholar Professor Yu Kuo received the 2024 EDS J.J. Ebers Award.
- Yushan Scholar Professor Hiroshi Iwai was recognized as an EDS Distinguished Lecturer (since 1994).
- Visiting Professor Daisuke Ueda earned the 2024 EDS Lester F. Eastman Award.
- Dr. Yu-Hsuan Wang, a recent Ph.D. graduate, was awarded the Ph.D. Student Research Scholarship.
President Chi-Hung Lin emphasized that these honors not only reflect NYCU’s outstanding performance in the fields of electronic devices and semiconductors but also embody the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. “Academician Simon Min Sze’s contributions have set a shining example for society,” President Lin stated. “The achievements of Professors Yu Kuo, Daisuke Ueda, Hiroshi Iwai, and Dr. Yu-Hsuan Wang further highlight NYCU’s leadership on the global stage.”
President Lin encouraged NYCU’s faculty and students to uphold the spirit of “Think Bigger, Do Better” and to continue leading innovation, creating greater value for humanity.
The organizers invited the family of Academician Simon Min Sze to the banquet to present the EDS Education Award, named the IEEE EDS Simon Min Sze Education Award, in recognition of his contributions to semiconductor education.
