The demand for generative AI (GenAI) applications is on the rise, but the high cost of training equipment has kept AI talent development largely theoretical. To address this gap, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) has invested tens of millions of NT dollars in establishing AI laboratories and actively seeks industry partnerships for academic collaboration.
On August 27, Phison Electronics announced a donation of 40 sets of its latest “aiDAPTIV+ Solution AI 100” and related AI training software to NYCU. This donation aims to enhance the performance of NYCU’s existing computer equipment, potentially saving tens of millions of NT dollars in AI equipment procurement costs.
Phison’s Contribution Accelerates GenAI Research at NYCU
As industries worldwide explore the potential of AI technology, academia, government, and industry sectors seek safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for fine-tuning GenAI models locally. This demand is particularly significant in research institutions and academic settings, where high-performance computing equipment for local AI model training is a considerable challenge.
In response to this challenge, Phison Electronics, a leader in NAND control chip and NAND storage solutions, has donated 40 sets of its latest “aiDAPTIV+ Solution AI 100” and AI training software to support NYCU’s College of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science (CCS). This donation will enable NYCU to upgrade standard desktop computers, previously incapable of performing on-premises AI model training, into AI workstations capable of fine-tuning large language models (LLMs). This enhancement will allow students to move beyond theoretical research and implement AI applications practically, significantly accelerating the research and application development in the GenAI field.
Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration to Boost Taiwan’s AI Development
NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin stated that GenAI has the potential to revolutionize academic research and teaching methods and offer new opportunities for innovative applications. Research and applications related to GenAI, such as smart medical information systems and local language models, urgently require low-power, cost-effective solutions. The aiDAPTIV+ Solution AI 100 donation from Phison will enable more faculty and students to conduct GenAI research and application development more quickly and efficiently, driving NYCU’s further technological innovation and strengthening AI research capabilities. NYCU looks forward to more in-depth collaborations with Phison to cultivate top-tier GenAI professionals who can contribute to Taiwan’s AI industry development.

Phison CEO Khein Seng Pua, an esteemed NYCU alumnus, remarked at the donation ceremony that this contribution provides NYCU with substantial technical support and highlights the importance of industry-academia collaboration in advancing AI technology applications. Phison and NYCU have maintained a close partnership over the years, and this donation results from their long-standing, deep relationship.
Pua pointed out that many faculty and students in NYCU’s ECE and CCS are passionate about GenAI. However, their research projects often remain theoretical due to budget constraints for high-end AI servers. Phison is honored to offer the aiDAPTIV+ Solution to NYCU, addressing the issue of on-premises AI computing equipment, enhancing students’ competitiveness, and supporting the training of more GenAI professionals across Taiwan’s universities.
With this donation, the partnership between NYCU and Phison has deepened, providing the university with advanced AI research equipment and laying a solid foundation for future AI talent development. NYCU will continue working closely with industry partners to promote GenAI research and applications, hoping such collaborations will expand further, significantly contributing to Taiwan’s technological innovation and global competitiveness.
